This paper deals with the issues of information management in Finnish universities, and the role of libraries in this context. Information technology has become an important factor and a key element in Finnish economy and has a significant impact on Finnish educational system. Therefore information strategies have been developed both on the national and local level for some time. Strategies produced by various organisations are reviewed briefly both from the national and local viewpoint. Information management at local level, in universities, is dealt with more closely. Examples of collaboration between different units are described. A case of Tampere University of Technology where an information management structure has been changed on basis of the information strategy, is described. This strategy emphasised the co-operation and collaboration of university operations and activities. The follow-up of this process and the effects on daily practise are reported.
