Zur Meteorologie der Finanzmärkte
The article deals with the historical relationship between physics and economy. My investigation focuses primarily on the use of meteorological metaphors in reporting financial market transactions. This paper charts recent developments in the meteorology of foreign exchange markets; its starting point is the examination of the use of metaphor. We find that professional brokers convey the force of financial crisis by recurring to natural phenomena as a source domain. Meteorological metaphors are realised in the reiterative use of the linguistic expressions of turbulence. By highlighting their different assumptions about market behaviour and meteorology, I discuss how these approaches conceptualize financial markets.
