| Statistical testing of reliability and validity of a psychological instrument helps to evaluate to
which extent the predictions made on this instrument represent the latent construct aimed to be measured. This work assesses the reliability, in terms of internal consistency, and construct validity
of the Diversity Icebreaker questionnaire, developed by Human Factors AS (Norway). The
main purpose of the questionnaire is to help reveal individuals’ personal preferences for communication
and interaction in a team. Since the questionnaire’s format is partially ipsative, the
validity and reliability of this instrument could not be evaluated with advanced statistical methods
in previous research. Based on three samples, in Norwegian, German and English languages,
advanced statistical methods such as Explorative Factor analysis, Confirmatory Factor analysis
and Item Response Theory approaches were applied to verify to which extent the constructs measured
by this instrument can be replicated in varying populations. In addition, the consistency of
Diversity Icebreaker’s categories and discriminatory power of questionnaire’s items were evaluated.
The results showed that items representing the RED category of this instrument are the most
consistent and valid. The research also indicated that, owing to the strong interrelation between
BLUE and GREEN categories, these concepts should be further elaborated in order to improve
predictions made by this instrument. |
