In order to meet the needs of the information society and its users, some academic and public libraries in the Anglo-American area successfully realized the concept Information Commons since the beginning of the 1990ies. Information Commons as a new model of service delivery is based on a close collaboration between libraries and IT Facilities. Information Commons provides access to information resources and services bundled in one place. By using state-of-the-art information technologies, a new approach to deliver scientific information services and free access to traditional and electronic information resources is provided. This thesis analyses if Information Commons is a realizable concept for academic libraries in Germany. To accomplish this goal a qualitative comparison is presented between academic libraries in the Anglo-American and the German area. A package of appropriate measures is developed to adapt the international Information Commons standard for the analyzed German sites.eng
