Approach to new technologies of Information and Communication for Higher Education: the Cultural paradigm
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
European universities are submitted to a high pressure coming from the political deciders as well as from the public opinion to develop rapidly the use of the new technologies of information (NTIC) in their curriculum. This raises many unanswered questions. What is the efficiency of these new approaches of teaching and learning? Can we translate the American experience directly to Europe? Are the traditions of our European universities obsolete? Shall we become followers of the American model or can we share, in Europe, a common attitude to preserve our heritage and culture? We will discuss some of these points, based on our experience through EUNIS as well as through exchanges with our American colleagues through EDUCAUSE. Our opinion is that the American model cannot be translated directly in Europe.
