Liverpool John Moores University (JMU) have developed a corporate strategy that is focussed on the learner and mandates a technical infrastructure that enables the delivery of a high degree of self-service access to central applications, plus staff and processes attuned to this approach. The ultimate goal is the delivery of a Learner Relationship Management (LRM) system, based around industry CRM concepts, and providing an integrated learner profile accessible by students and staff at all points during the educational life-cycle. This approach requires a radical shift in the way in which the University administration interacts with learners and will be a major cultural change for JMU. The Oracle Student System (OSS) is being implemented by JMU as an essential building block of this approach, and in particular the implementation project is addressing the people and process issues resolution of which is essential for success. The presentation will describe the big picture - the corporate strategy that is driving this learner-centred approach, including the conceptual background to LRM and Self-Service; the way in which this approach is embodied in the OSS Implementation Project, and in particular how people and process issues are being addressed; progress to date on the project and lessons learned on the way to achieving strategic objectives.eng
