Cultural appropriation – (k)ein Thema für die Fremdsprachendidaktik?

Abstract

For some years now, criticism of cultural appropriation has been voiced in various contexts. On the basis of relevant examples, this article examines the theoretical foundations of the criticism of cultural appropriation. Subsequently, a critique of this contemporary phenomenon is formulated. Finally, the article emphasises the relevance of the topic for the discussion regarding the didactics of foreign language learning.

Seit einigen Jahren wird in verschiedensten Kontexten Kritik an so genannter kultureller Aneignung (cultural appropriation) laut. Im Beitrag werden anhand aussagekräftiger Fallbeispiele die theoretischen Grundlagen der Kritik an cultural appropriation erläutert. Anschließend wird eine kulturwissenschaftliche Kritik dieses gegenwartskulturellen Phänomens formuliert. Schließlich wird die Relevanz des Themas für die fremdsprachendidaktische Diskussion herausgearbeitet.
