Politische Bildung in Bibliotheken: Herausforderungen und Potenziale

Abstract

Der Artikel knüpft an Arbeiten in den Bibliothekswissenschaften an, die sich mit dem Verhältnis von Demokratie und Bibliotheken sowie einer politischen Theorie der Bibliotheken beschäftigen. Im Gegensatz zu dem Gros der Arbeiten, die sich auf die Öffentlichkeitsfunktion von Bibliotheken fokussieren, soll hier verstärkt das Individuum ins Zentrum gerückt werden. In einem zweiten Schritt diskutiert die Autorin die Frage nach dem Bedeutungsgehalt einer gegenwärtigen politischen Bildung, um schließlich eine strategische Einbindung von Bibliotheken in diesem Bereich vorzuschlagen.

Building on ongoing discussions about democracy and libraries in the field of library and information studies, the author aims to contribute to a political theory of libraries. While the majority of studies in this field deal with concepts of the public sphere, the author calls attention to the individual facing current challenges. In a second step, she focuses on the meaning of civic education nowadays and the potential role of libraries in strengthening civic literacy.
