Ein Land ohne Bibliotheksakademie

Abstract

In den Niederlanden gibt es keine Ausbildungsinstitutionen für Bibliothekare mehr. Etwas, das im Ausland – und oft auch in den Niederlanden selbst – Fragen aufwirft. Dies umso mehr, als die Niederlande in den Top-Ten-Listen der guten Bibliotheksländer normalerweise nicht fehlt. Wie geht das ohne eine solide Bibliotheksausbildung? In diesem Beitrag werde ich auf die Geschichte der Bibliotheksbildung in den Niederlanden, ihr Verschwinden und die aktuelle Situation eingehen. Und vor allem darauf, was es an Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten für Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare noch gibt. Wo es möglich ist, verwende ich Quellen, stütze mich aber teilweise auf Gespräche mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen und meine eigenen Erfahrungen und Einsichten, die ich als Direktor der Öffentlichen Bibliothek Utrecht gewonnen habe. Dieser Beitrag ist daher teilweise eher eine persönliche Reflexion als ein wissenschaftlicher Artikel.

There are no more library schools in the Netherlands. Something that raises questions abroad - and often in the Netherlands itself. All the more so because the Netherlands is usually not absent from the top ten lists of good library countries. How can this be done without a solid library education? In this contribution I will look at the history of library education in the Netherlands, its disappearance and the current situation. And above all, what development opportunities still exist for librarians. Where possible, I use sources, but I partly rely on conversations with colleagues and my own experiences and insights gained as director of the Utrecht Public Library. This contribution is therefore partly a personal reflection rather than an academic article.
