In the age of Digital Humanities, architectural collections are faced with the challenge of digitizing analog paper documentation, publishing documentation online, and backing up some two decades of existing digital architectural heritage. The author proposes that collections handle these challenges by defining clear profiles and definitive collection concepts, in other words that they be approached as a composite. Based on a literary inheritance, he discusses the difficulties of safeguarding so-called “born digital” documents. He suggests systematically expanding the collection and indexing strategies to include the new electronic sources and using a “digital legacy system” to prepare the incorporation of such documents in cooperation with the architects at an early stage.eng
