The article is firstly based on the idea that clothes and textiles potentially tend to introduce a subtle discourse shaped by symbols of the individual's disappearance and, secondly, that this discourse arises in contemporary art as well as in popular culture. Especially commemorative subcultures and art works by those artists who are working with materials that display traces exemplify this potential.
