This paper discusses Swedish-German film relations in the 1920s, focusing primarily upon the marketing policies of the German production company Trianon Film AG This study exemplifies “European” film marketing of the time, including its many difficulties. The final section of the paper presents new evidence to help answer the question: “why did Greta Garbo not become a German movie star?” This new evidence is linked to the feature film project "Die Odaliske von Smolny", a project which Trianon began to work on in 1924, but which was never completed.eng
