The internet opens up new horizons for (science) communication: through classical websites, weblogs, wikis, podcasts, or videos. Specific research on the potential these communication media offer for university museums and collections is still missing. Therefore, the paper presents and surveys the current use of internet communication in order to provide fundamental material for critical discussion. The study is based on collections registered in the online database "University Museums and Collections in Germany".eng
